The 5 easiest ways to wake up your wardrobe for Spring

The first sight of a sunny day and I know many of us go into panic mode right? Wanting to buy everything ‘new in’ and panicking over our current wardrobes? On top of that, I bet your inbox is probably already full of “New Season Drop” emails.

Now, don’t get me wrong it’s incredibly tempting to think your entire wardrobe needs a refresh. Even I’m thinking mine could do with a little update, but actually the truth is that you rarely need more clothes, you just need a few clever swaps- something I tell my clients on a daily basis. Spring dressing is really about lightening things up; slightly softer fabrics, fresher colours & different layers can make your existing wardrobe feel refreshed.

So before you start adding to your basket, why not try these five simple wardrobe shifts that will instantly bring your outfits into spring.

  1. Start with your layers - Spring is all about The Jacket

How many of us spend winter wearing the same couple of coats on repeat? Hopefully they are coats you love and enjoy wearing, but nevertheless it gets a little ‘samey’ so when Spring arrives it’s time for jackets to really come into their own…and you know how much I love a jacket! Think of your jackets as the piece that changes the entire feel of an outfit, the piece that ‘completes’ a Spring look

Don’t forget that different shapes also work with different proportions:

• Longer jackets work beautifully with slimmer jeans or cigarette trousers
• Shorter jackets balance wider leg trousers or midi skirts
• Utility jackets & denim jackets (that aren’t too ‘mumsy’) instantly make outfits feel more relaxed & casual.

And if you still need warmth? The lightweight packable puffer, from Uniqlo, worn underneath a trench, jacket, or even a blazer, is the stylist trick nobody talks about but it works brilliantly. I call it the ‘unsexiest jacket’ that everyone needs to my clients, and they all agree!

These four pieces alone could easily transform the same pair of jeans into four completely different outfits!

2. Swap your heavy knits for lighter textures

Around March time,  most of us feel like we have been living in knitwear for months. An easy spring update is to simply switch the fabric options; instead of thick wool or cashmere, start to introduce cotton knits, fine gauge jumpers, lighter cardigans, and breathable layers.

Cotton sweaters are brilliant because they still give you the comfort of knitwear whilst instantly feeling fresher, more breathable, and more seasonal. A long-sleeve cotton top also becomes a brilliant layering piece, and one that actually looks good if it peeks out from under a crew-neck jumper or cardigan.

These colours feel instantly lighter than winter’s deeper tones.

3. Bring your shirts & blouses back out

If winter is the season of cosy knits, spring is the season of great shirts & blouses. Think crisp cotton shirts, soft blouses, and relaxed button-downs, without panicking about the weather as you can still easily pop a thin thermal underneath to keep you warm, particularly in the UK where the weather is so interchangeable. Clever layering underneath means you can re-introduce your silk blouses, cotton shirts & lighter weight tops without freezing. It’s a very simple switch up, but allows you to transition your wardrobe into spring much sooner.

4. It’s time for some colour!

Do you ever feel that your Winter wardrobes become very black-heavy? Black jeans, black trousers, black knitwear… it happens to all of us, and mine particularly over the last few months. So Spring is a great time to introduce softer neutrals and warmer tones (and if you aren’t sure what the best colours for you to wear are to give you that glow up, pop me an email to discuss a potential Colour Analysis - the difference is incredible).

One of the easiest swaps, and super on-trend for 2026 so easy to do, is to replace black with navy. Navy is softer, more flattering & pairs beautifully with so many colours. Other incredibly wearable spring alternatives include:

• chocolate brown
• cinnamon tones
• soft khaki
• warm taupe

These colours feel rich but still much lighter than black. A gorgeous spring palette might include:

• navy trousers
• a cinnamon knit
• cream trainers
• a denim jacket

Suddenly your wardrobe feels fresh again.

5. Refresh Your Accessories

Accessories are often one of the fastest, and easiest, ways to update an outfit, think about the current scarf trend, I picked one in M&S for £8 last week that brings a simple update to my classic jeans, tee & blazer look.

If you’ve been relying on the same black leather bag all winter, it might be time to soften things up a little, maybe try a spring alternative bag in tan leather (always a great option in buy opinion), taupe, chocolate brown or of course a suede bag is always a great investment. Plus, with suede having a huge moment right now there is a lot of choice out there, and it does add such a lovely softness to outfits.

If you want something a little bolder, metallics and animal print bags are surprisingly versatile, or why not add a pop of red for instant energy!

Picture this spring accessory combination:

• tan suede bag
• gold jewellery
• tortoiseshell sunglasses
• white trainers

Simple, timeless & very chic.
